Digital book “The Otepää Stamp – A Symbol of Freedom (in Estonian)

The Otepää stamps, bearing a blue-black-white armorial shield, were in circulation only briefly during the war summer of 1941 and quickly became rare owing to the small print run and heavy demand; they can still be regarded as the most legendary of all Estonian postage stamps. The book gives a thorough account of the printing of the Otepää stamps, the stamp types and the forgeries, as well as of the investigations surrounding their issue and falsification, and through the testimony of people who had dealings with the stamps it offers a chance to immerse oneself in the atmosphere of the time. What is certain is that no book this detailed about any single postage stamp has previously appeared in Estonia, and it should appeal to collectors and to those interested in history alike.

The book is richly illustrated and runs to more than 200 pages. Of these, some 80 pages give the broader background and context, and the remainder a more detailed description of the stamp types and forgeries. Over 170 photographs and illustrations in all.

The Estonian language digital edition in PDF format costs €25 (including 24% VAT) and is intended for reading on a computer or tablet. The digital edition allows full-text search, and the images are of far better quality, enabling serious enthusiasts to make out fine details such as varieties and the like.
