NB! 1918 Ob Ost stationery card Dorpat/Tartu-Reval/Tallinn, rare censor mark from Riga

150.00

Nice inland card from Dorpat to Reval that has been sent to Riga for censoring, as at that time local censoring offices in Estonia were not yet set up. Note rare censor mark “R” from Riga which has no circle around “R” letter.

The card is addressed to Bishop Platon, bishop of Estonia, the first Orthodox saint of Estonian ethnicity. On 14 January 1919, he was executed by Bolsheviks in Tartu prison along with two other priests, just before the city was retaken by the Estonian Army. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platon_(Kulbusch)
